Usha Bhatnagar is a self taught artist. She has received basic training of painting oil and water color for two years in a private institute. Subsequently, she learned more about painting by visiting art galleries, observing the fine paints of exhibits. She is more interested in figurative work, specially in painting the rural women in their surrounding. Rajasthan has mesmerized her by its colourful scenario.

She had four solo exhibitions of her work at Nehru Art Counter in 1998 at ANZ Grindlay Rank Art Gallery in 1998, at Art work Oberoi Hotel in 1999 and at Jehangir Art Gallery in 2001.

She has participated in group show of the Art Society of India held at Jahangir Art Gallery in 1999 and also in their Platinum Jubilee celebration held at Jehangir Art Gallery in 1994. Many of he paintings are in private collections in India & abroad, eg – UK, Sweden & Kenya. ‘Ponds’ has chosen her for their campaign for lute national woman of the year 1998, and have published five of her paintings in the popular magazine ‘Meri Saheli’. The pages and main covers of prestigious magazines Dharmying & Saptahik Hindustan, Wagnar, Navneet, Kathabimb & Kutubnama etc and on main covers of books of many prominent writers.

 

Oxford University Press New York has chosen one of her painting for the cover of their book Imperial Origins of a Cultural Crime. Nazima Sohrab from Oman has chosen her work for Cry Cars, concern and Natural History Society of Bombay have chosen her painting for their greeting cards & calendar. IIT Powai had chosen her as a judge for function Indigo, twice in 2006 & 2007.

She is a well known Hindi writer. Her stories are published in many established Hindi magazines. Her books Gangajal, Apna Apna Aasman, Jung Abhi Jari Hai, Vah Eak Raat and Kahaniyon ke Aangen Mai are well reviewed and appreciated. She has been awarded Munshi Premchand Sahiya award by Maharashtra Sahitya Academy for her book Apna Apna Aasman in 1999.
